Bill Withers, US Navy officer paid his dues serving his country early in life.  During his his mid 20s grew an itch for  writing and singing.  Withers chose LA as his stage and was determined to turn his musical career into success.   With his foundation built, he recorded demos with saved money, self promoting his sound and showcasing his music locally.

Through all the tribulations with studio time,  Withers  finally dropped the 1971 album Just as I Am.  Production by Booker T.Jones under Sussex Records. The album won a Grammy a year after for best R&B song "Ain't No Sunshine".  The rest is history.  Bill Withers & Booker T together are undeniably crisp, especially on wax.
